Did anyone get their Edgar Rice Burroughs stamp today at the post office?

Obviously, I did ... but it took a couple of tries to get it. One post office claimed they didn't get their shipment in (which seems to me to be a rather embarrassing response from an organization that ships goods as their main source of business).

When I got the stamp at another post office and mentioned that response (which was from the Postmaster) they didn't buy the excuse either.

Oh well, at least I know what post office to go to when I want the new stamps!

I think you've just identified a good candidate for addition to the DPO list.

This one also shows the connection of Tarzan and Wisconsin like the one above. I had a ton of trouble making this and it didn't turn out how I envisioned it. I ended up having to get scrap book paper with leopard print, cut it out in the shape of Wisconsin and then scan it. As a result, there was a slight background color I couldn't get rid of. I'm going to have to look into getting better software!

This is the best of the three, I think.

Something of a record turn-around time here. I sent my covers in for an Edgar Rice Burroughs First Day of Issue cancel on 08/17/2012 from Massachusetts to Tarzana, CA, and I received them back today (08/24/2012)...seven days to California and back. Not bad timing!

(I only scanned the postmark portion of the cover, as I have yet to create a cachet for this one.)

At StampShow, I saw this sitting on the post office counter and asked if I could have it. I don't know what it's called,
but know that people collect these!

Is there a "proper" place for the stamp and cancel on these cards?

Many thanks!

Those are referred to as "Deck Cards". Believe it or not the USPS sells them for $0.95 apiece (uncancelled), and much more with a first day of issue cancel and stamp on them ($1.95, I think).

It is interesting that the USPS is not officially offering the first day cancelled Deck Card for the Edgar Rice Burroughs Stamp, so you may have something of a collectible there, considering there is only one for every 200 panes of stamps that get issued (unless, of course, the USPS is printing extras for philatelic sales).
