There was a big antiques show at the Rhinebeck fairgrounds today so there were many YARD SALE signs around town...for less than 10 bucks I picked up 4 items by prying everywhere on the tables.. 1) two world war 2 era covers ..one a July 4. 1942 FDC and one a letter written by a sailor from the Brooklyn Navy Yard to a lady friend in June 1943,2) a nice luxery liner postcard with a Gibraltar stamp and 3) an envelope of mint Peoples Republic of China that someone must have bought home as a souvineer..i have some of the duplicates under items for sale...

Great Job Phil.

My luck wasn't so great. While visiting my daughter in Nova Scotia this weekend I visited an antique store. She had a few old alums with some stamps in them but wanted 25 buck a piece for them. I flipped through the albums and deducted there was about 10.00 worth of stamps in them tops(the albums themselves were in bad shape and not worth anything). I fought the urge and left them there.

Diane, you did the absolute right thing...the antique shop dealers do not have a clue what stamps are worth...sometimes that can be a good thing..but usually they price way too high !! Its difficult for a collector not to buy emotionally..i have done it and friends have done it...we know we paid too much but ! Do you take the ferry or drive all the way around when going to Nova Scotia ???

We drove Phil

We picked up my Mom in Dieppe on the way trough and also we went to the halifax end of the valley so the drive length would have been the same either way.
