I was throwing out loads of articles from the different stamp magazines and papers and came across this one. I thought maybe some of our members could get a laugh out of this one.

I am scanning and keeping the best articles with specific specialties

Let me know please if you can read the article. If not, I'll try to enlarge it more.

That's a great news article about some unfortunate postmarks. Here's a couple of more to add to the list:

Quote:
A British national slogan ARE YOU FULLY INSURED? gave great offence when it was used to cancel notifications of impending hospital operations to would-be patients.

A common American slogan of the late 1950s REPORT OBSCENE MAIL TO YOUR POSTMASTER is said to have been abruptly withdrawn, after it was used to frank invitations to the wedding of a senator's daughter.

Equally unfortunate was the slogan used in the United States ALIENS MUST REPORT THEIR ADDRESSES DURING JANUARY, which went all over the world cancelling the airmail stamp showing the Statue of Liberty and the caption 'Liberty for All'.

While we are on the loghter side of philately, I thought I should scan theses as well. They all came from a very funny magazine that was published some years ago and may still be produced todayÉ

I know, I know, I must have had too much time on my hands. Funny as it may seem, some of these cartoon images were attached to different articles in Linn's Weekly before it went in to magazine format and only once a month.

Do the members here remember when these stamp images were done? (not asking for a date - rhetorical question <G>) All you had to do was compete against other Linn subscribers by putting in your own captions and you could win a prize.

I'm going to start looking closer at those slogan items on envelopes - they are hilarious.
