Did anyone pickup their copy of the O. Henry stamp today at the post office?

Mine had a curious (pinkish) dot on the upper left stamp that was taken fresh out of the shrink wrapped package. I don't think it's damage, but rather some sort of spot on the stamp that was probably caused by poor quality control:

At least I got a "free" deck card to go along with it, which is how I know it came from a fresh shrink wrapped package of the stamps:

If all the stamps are that grainy and mis-registered-looking I will pass on collecting them at all.

Not really as grainy as that first image would have you believe. Here's a plate block from the pane:

Sort of a weird artistic rendition, as the background picture of NYC is clearly seen as an image through the suit of O. Henry.

Anyway, I thought this image might be a good fit for a FDC cachet:

I haven't been collecting modern stuff, but I missed a good opportunity on this one.

O. Henry is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Asheville, NC (about an hour from me). I should have made some covers and/or a MaxiCard and had them postmarked in Asheville yesterday.

Oh well, live and learn.

A question about these: I got a sheet today, and noticed that in the catalog the sta,p has sort of a greyish background, whereas the stamps in real life have a light pastel green background. Is that how they normally look?

Yes, they do have a greenish looking background.

In fact, if you go to the stamp details published in the Postal Bulletin, the ink colors used for the stamp are noted to be Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black and 5473 (Green).
