Would you really confuse an upside down 1c stamp for a 10c stamp?

Apparently, the US Postal Service did and to insure that they did not lose any more revenue by the mistake, they "quietly" changed the designs so that all stamps below 9 cents in value would never carry a zero in front of it.

I found this old news story from 1995 about the situation and since I don't recall hearing about it before (maybe I forgot about it) I thought I'd share it again. An interesting piece of modern postal history that is often forgotten about:

Of course, that dated news article couldn't have predicted that in 2012, we will be having high value stamps with denominations in dollars but without the "$" sign. But then again, if someone were stupid enough to mistake those stamps for a 1c stamp, the consumer would be the loser, not the US Postal Service.

I don't recall hearing about that either, but I did run into a couple of the 01 stamps while sorting a big pile of U.S. kiloware I did't confuse them for 10, but I was wondering why they had the letter 'O' followed by 1 on the stamp. I thought they might have been a place holder for a price increase. Not one of the USPS's better ideas.

The news article previously posted also refers to the 5c Circus Wagon stamp. Just to refresh everyone's memory, here are the two designs referenced:

No. And anybody who does needs new glasses (unless kestrels are usually found dangling from their feet).
