Well you learn something new everyday. This is called a (CRASH COVER).

Covers that have been retrieved from such disasters as plane crashes, trains accidents or sunken ships. Some sort of proof of the incident is usually found on the envelope, such as scorching caused by fire, evidence that the cover was immersed in water, or an official explanation of the delay in delivery.

Here is a site with more info.

This website tracks all known airplane crashes worldwide, and has plenty of pictures as well as NTSB and other agency reports, etc. It also has links to major air shows, airline data and statistics, logos, aircraft dates of service, and many other related subjects. Reading the reports, you will learn a hundred different ways to crash a plane.

A friend of mine has a cover with the auxillary marking something like" mail delayed due to train robbery and fire" I will see if he can send me a picture. I'm sure he still has it. I have tried to buy it from him more than once.
