I started seeing these in my mail today, but have yet to find one legible enough to read the whole thing or notice any varieties. Anyone have any info on these? Thanks!

It's loosely based on US Stamp Scott 4524d which was also the theme of last week's Postal Bulletin:

The text in the graphic is supposed to say: "TURN OFF LIGHTS"

The text at the bottom of the slogan postmark says "ENERGY ACTION MONTH".

Here's another slogan cancel from Buffalo, NY dated 10/4/2012. This is not my slogan cancel, but was carried on VSC the other day:

What I have found interesting is that it's rather unusual to see a slogan with the wavy bars "killer" portion of the cancel incorporated as part of the design.

What location did you receive mail with that slogan cancel and what was the date of the postmark?

It's very frustrating for collectors to learn that the USPS does not release any of this data to the general public so it's up to us collectors to report these finds to each other to know what locations are using them, if there are any other varieties in use and/or the earliest use date.

Apparently these Energy Action Month slogan cancels are coming out all over the country now. I just received one dated 10 Oct 2012 from Brockton, MA 023, applied to an "unofficial" first day of sale cancel for the Christmas/Holy Family stamp:

Ive gotten a few from Massachusetts... I can't say I find them overly attractive (I dont like the stamps, either), a Halloween cancel would be much nicer in my opinion(along with matching stamps).

I think it is a nice design, if only we could manage to get a machine cancel that was legible
