I have the following 264 (has the 191 watermark). It is defined as having the color blue.

The following stamps are A87's (246 or 247); they have no watermarks.
They are supposed to be either blue or ultramarine.

I can see some difference in color, but I can't decide what is what, even using the known blue #264 above.

Of course, the disclaimers of scans and monitors not displaying the exact same apply. But I'm desperate!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This may be of some help (scan taken with the color adjustment feature disabled).

The stamps with plate #2 are Scott 246 -- plate #2 was not used to print Scott 247.

PNS#33 could be either Scott 246 or 247 because the plate was used to print both the ultramarine and the blue stamp.

I like to think that the single is Scott 247 but I don't know for sure because I'm colorblind and can't tell if it is blue or dark ultramarine.

Here is a side-by-side comparison:

Steve

Based on the scan, of the four you show in the initial post, the one on the left is probably a dark ultramarine and the other three are ultramarine. It's always tough to be sure from a scan Blue is a dark pure color, ultramarine is blue with a lot of gray in it, a much paler shade.

Steve, these are great examples. Thanks! To me the single looks like a different color, rather than a shade of blue. So, to me, the single looks ultramarine.

revcollector, I appreciate your opinion. As you say, scans are so hard to use for determination. I had browsed ebay for 247. I saw several different colors (all scans, I assume).

And to confuse me even more I just noticed the site theswedishtiger.com shows 246 as blue and 247 as ultramarine. 2013 Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps & Covers shows 246 as ultramarine and 247 as blue. I think I'll trust Scott's.

Colorblind and dyslexic collectors are clearly disadvantaged!
