WooHoo!
......so if you have read the previous posts in this thread you got a little Fridley Post Office history. Prior to becoming Fridley in 1879, it was called Manomin starting in 1853. I have seen a couple territorial Manomin covers and they were out of my price range or not for sale. I have looked for a statehood Manomin cover for over 25 years. I have never seen one, until today. I got this for $12.01 on
ebay, which I saw as an incredible bargain and did not want to share the story until I had this baby in my hands. It is a real clean cover with manuscript cancel, complete with a great Pioneer letter from an uncle to his young nephew with lots of family references and the struggles of early Minnesota Pioneer life.
So as I reach milestones in Postal History collecting I set new ones. To make this complete I am now searching for an affordable Manomin Territorial cover. I know one belongs to the Minnesota Historical Society and according to the late Floyd Risvold less than 6 exist. He had the other one that I saw and it sold at his huge auction out east. I have heard a dealer in Shakopee, MN has one. It took me 25 years to find this. Collecting Postal History has taught me patience, but I hope I don't need to wait another 25 years.
...... Oh, and yes Smauggie if you are reading this, I will finally put together an exhibit if I find the territorial.
