I purchased this on e-bay as a 279B Type IV, but in looking at it I think its really a 251? The lines pass through the triangle and thin out hence the Type II call. In fact some one scripted II on the edge.

Whats the verdict?

It is neither #279B nor #251.

It is #266.

If you originally bought it as a #279B, I would say you probably got a relatively good deal for this #266.

How did you come up with a #266? Plate Number?

I paid $67.00 for it 2013 Cat for a #266 is $475

Yes, it looks like plate number 169 ONLY occurs on #266. I doubled checked all the 2c Washingtons of design type A88 just to be sure.

4 plates were used to print #251: 126, 131, 132, 133

khj is likely pulling the information from the Durland Standard Plate Number Catalog which is published by the United States Stamp Society.
