Although not postcard related, the previously posted postcard "Everybody Works But Father" reminds me of this old time joke:

Quote:
The population of the United States was 180 million at the time of this writing. BUT…

There are 64 million people over 60 years of age;
which leaves 116 million people to do all the work.

Those under the age of 21 total 59 million people;
which leaves 57 million people to do all the work.

There are 31 million government employees, who we all know do next to nothing;
which leaves 26 million people to do all the work.

Six million people are in the armed forces;
which leaves 20 million people to do all the work.

Deduct 17 million State, County, and City employees;
which leaves three million people to do all the work.

There are 2,500,000 people in hospitals, asylums, and treatment facilities
which leaves 500,000 people to do all the work.

However, 450,000 of these are bums or others who will not work;
which leaves 50,000 people to do all the work.

Now, it may interest you to know that there are 49,998 people in prisons, jails and correctional facilities;
which leaves just 2 people to do all the work.

And that leaves you and me:
And brother,
I'm getting tired of doing all the work myself!

In reference to the Columbus Wisconsin card. The years have progressed, but circumstances remain the same. In 1906 "I can't come home Sunday unless I go out with somebody for my horses need rest" while today "can someone give me a lift for my car is in the shop".

Though the image is not funny, the typed copy on the back is rather humorous. Curious to know how many they gave away in those days
