I am wondering how to get more info. about these color shift errors on these stamps. I am aware of the error on the same stamp regarding missing colors, but on these I see the red on the horses and sleigh shifted up, the little chimneys shifted up, the green trees on the horizon shifted up, etc. I have a strip of 10 of these.

Thank you.

I know these multi-color stamps have a "tolerance" of an "allowable" shift in color during the quality control and I believe it is really a common occurrence unless the shift or omittance is outside said tolerance criteria and then it would probably be at least listed in the Scott catalog as a known variety so that may be a good start for you.

Just from a glance at my catalog I see that on your stamp (Scott #1384) there is a few varieties listed.

a. precanceled

b. imperf pair

c. light green omitted

d. light green and yellow omitted

e. yellow omitted.

It also states that: {the precanceled versions were issued on an experimental basis in four cities whose names appear on the stamp: Atlanta Ga., Baltimore Md., Memphis TN., and New Haven CT.}

No color shifts are listed in Scott as a variety on any issue (except in a few cases where the shift is so extreme that the color is shifted completely off the stamp resulting in a color missing error)

That stamp was printed on the old Huck Press and therefore many stamp issues from that generation are noted to have color shifts such as in your example.

As stated earlier, unless there is a true color missing error, the "misregistration" of the colors is merely considered to be a "freak" at best. In fact, many collectors would consider it less desirable than a perfectly aligned example.

Still an interesting collectible, though it likely commands no extra monetary value.
