Thought this was kind of fun. Picked it up at the CSDA show in Toronto today.
Great big Providence RI CDS on a tiny (2.5x4.25") cover.

Kind of jumped out at me.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Honourable Darius Peck of Hudson, Columbia Co. New York...

A premium item -- very unusual to find a year date from that era!

Year-dated CDS started to proliferate in 1856 and by 1861 they were pretty commonly used. There are a lot year-dated Providence postmarks out there. I am pretty sure I have one. A nicely struck postmark can be tough to find though. The December '61 usage is early enough that I would consider some of the scarcer colors before I called the stamp a #65. Nice cover.

Thankyou all for the kind words. I will admit to a certain perverse satisfaction to showing off new finds here on SCF.
As to the colour of the stamp, I have never had much skill in differentiating the various shades of this issue.
Here I've scanned it with my two known #65s. There's a slight variation, but I wouldn't know how to classify it.

I made a point of scanning them all on the same background (the envelope) to reduce any tonal influence. And of course, scanners, monitors etc must be taken into account. But I think this is a fair comparison.

Lower right corner. Possibly a #64?

I'm going to bump this one, because I'm curious as to what sinclair2010 wrote about the stamp on this cover.
Can you 3c Washington experts have a look at my scan above and hazard a guess (and again, yes I understand about scans, monitors etc and colour) whether the stamp in this cover (lower right corner) may be something other than a #65.
Many thanks.

I don't think anybody is going to go too far out on a limb. It certainly is not a #64. Based on your new scan I think there is still some chance that the stamp is a #64b, albeit a small one. No matter what, you have a nice cover with a stamp that looks to at least have good color.
