I always prefered this style GTO to the later "fat" style... Of course, there are people who will argue that the GTO was NOT the first muscle car. My boyfriend has gone on about that during many a day-trip!

The final stamp in the Muscle Cars of the 60s and 70s was just posted today on USPS Facebook:

Quote:
Let's start this weekend off right: Here's the fifth and final of the 2013 Muscle Cars stamps, the 1967 Shelby GT-500, a take on the Ford Mustang that reflected manufacturer Carroll Shelby's roots as a racecar driver. Read about all five of the soon-to-be-released stamps at http://www.beyondtheperf.com/2013-preview. And check back later today for your chance to vote for your favorite muscle car! ("Shelby®" and "GT-500®" are registered trademarks of Carroll Shelby Licensing, Inc. used under license. MUSTANG is a registered trademark of Ford Motor Company.)

For all of you Muscle Car Stamp Collectors, I pulled this image off of the USPS Store to illustrate that the only way collectors choosing to buy the five different stamps of the series is by way of a VERTICAL strip of 5 -- and each vertical strip per sheet will contain the five stamps in different order:

It may be helpful to consider for those planning their own album pages for the stamps.

The latest USPS stamp announcement for 2013 ... finally a decent series of Flag stamps to use on US Mail!

Quote:
From the heights of sunny summer to the snowy depths of winter, Old Glory proudly waves—thanks to laws and traditions that encourage respect for our vital national symbol. Guidelines for the display and treatment of the American flag hark back to the National Flag Code adopted in 1923 at the National Flag Conference and amended a year later. A federal law in 1942 further provided specific rules for using and displaying the flag.

Federal law states that the American flag should be displayed every day of the year, but especially on federal and state holidays, the "birthdays" of states, and other days according to presidential proclamation. As long as a flag is a durable, all-weather flag, it may be displayed outdoors throughout the year, regardless of the weather.

Each of the four A Flag For All Seasons stamps shows an American flag, viewed from below, flying from a pole at full staff against a background of trees that evoke one of the four seasons of the year.

The stamp art, gouache on illustration board, is the work of Laura Stutzman, who used her personal photographs of the flag as art reference. The art director was Phil Jordan.

These stamps are being issued as Forever® stamps. Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.

...and for sure there will be:
- at least 3 different 100 stamp coils from different printers (APU, SSP, AVR) you can't buy strips off and that only PO's with philatelic counters may(!) have in stock (and they may only have the coil from one printer)
- at least 3 conventional booklets from different printers (with a good chance there will be reprints)
- and maybe an ATM booklet
All in all, this one issue will set you back at least $50...
Although I have to admit that the designs are very nice.
Can anyone see the Made in China tag on one of these flags? Just kidding...

I don't mind the varieties... I only collect used so it's just more to hunt for ... I just wish they'd make them so there is a readily observable difference to distinguish the varieties. Different perfs is easy enough, but when you start having to measure for a .2mm difference, that gets a little tedious. I liked it when they put the microprinting in different spots on the holiday ornament stamps.

Yeah, tell me about it... I am suprised our stamps aren't printed there... I was shocked a few years ago to see how much simple wrapping paper is now made there! WRAPPING PAPER!

But I digress...

They are very nice. The only thing I won't like is that they're probably the usual smaller stamps versus other commemorative.
Now I finally have a good choice for mail I'm sending which I don't feel "deserves" a fancy commemorative stamp. Seems wrong to mail bills in with the "love" series on them.

I like how they capture the four seasons, but that gives me too many ideas that involves hoarding them for the proper time of year.

I like the designs. And the fact that they represent the four seasons does not bother me. Are we going to produce "First Day of Spring" etc. cachets now?
