I have been waiting for a good example of the "Washington D.C." cancel that was once used on so-called embassy mail -- covers inbound to the U.S. from the U.S. Embassy in a foreign country, but physically carried in a diplomatic pouch and ultimately cancelled in Washington.

Unfortunately I forget what the slogan part of the cancel says, except that it starts, "This article..."

I have also seen 1950s stamps from Iran and Afghanistan cancelled in the same way.

Howdy,
That is an International (maker) machine cancel used about 1963 to 1965, with the slogan "THIS ARTICLE ORIGINALLY / MAILED IN COUNTRY INDICATED / BY POSTAGE". (The '/' used to indicate line break)

A hand-stamp slogan saying basically the same thing was used for most of the 20th century up til that machine cancel marking was used.

Really should call it an instructional or informational marking versus a slogan, I suppose.

Here are a few examples on cover, plus the traditional hand-stamp version.
