I too have been sorting some Washington/Franklins, and I have a question regarding this Washington coil. It has straight edges on three sides. Does that mean it is the end (beginning?) of a roll?

I also think it has an interesting cancel. Something, I think, about military training camps.

Without a pair pasted up we don't know for sure. It could have been cut by scissors, cut in a vending machine, or pasted. sorry no extra value.

looks like it was just chopped off the roll with scissors. That was a common practice back in the day.

I like that partial slogan cancel too James. ...Military training camps...? I recently seen this slogan cancel but cant remember right off what it's trying to say.?

ILS, military training camps were set up just prior to WWI. The setting up of these camps was not without some controversy, but when the US entered the war, the wisdom of the camps was proved. As it was, it took a year from the entry of the US into the war until any significant numbers of troops arrived in Europe.

That's a great piece of information! I am just sipping coffee this morning and as luck would have it WWI. in color is showing on the History channel. Sort of fitting with this post and my Washington/Franklin sorting at the moment.
