Received this one in the mail today, and I'm definitely gloating on this one-- and had some help from Winston Sinclair, who plated this one for me-- it is 39L5, and Type Va, which is a variety of #24. I read on PF's site that Neinken (author of one of the 1c 1857 specialized books) estimated that about 1 in 300 of the #24's is a Type Va, rather than the Type V:

The Type Va has none of the plate scratches on the right or left side, and the right side is much more complete than the normal Type V.

I've actually bought several Type V's thinking that they had a chance to be Type Va, and am still learning about this issue-- one could spend literally a lifetime on either the 1c 1851-7 OR the 3c 1851-7, and never know all of it-- both issues are definitely the most studied stamps in US philately.

Thought y'all would like to see this one-- thanks, Ray

Awesome score! I'm trying to learn a little bit about these myself only because I want to make better informed decisions when buying these issues. I found this chart that you may fin interesting. I'll post the site it came from as well.

Found another unused type Va online and bought it yesterday while on vacation. I'll post it after I get home and have it in hand. Ray

Watch out Ray, buying those 1 cent Franklins can be habit forming!
