Today the USPS revealed the design for the 2013 "Yes I Do" Stamp, as part of their wedding series of stamps. The stamp will be 66-cents in value (the two ounce domestic rate) designed for oversized and heavier wedding invitations and the like:

Here's the official announcement:

Though seemingly small, these three words hold enormous meaning, marking the beginning of two lives joined together in love. The Yes, I Do stamp is a charming and romantic addition to the U.S. Postal Service's Weddings series, adding a festive yet elegant flair to wedding correspondence.

With the words "Yes, I Do" nestled in a colorful bouquet of stylized flowers in the shape of a heart, this stamp is sure to add a touch of beauty to wedding invitations. The stamp will be issued at the two-ounce mailing rate to accommodate the heavier weight of an invitation, as well as other mailings such as oversized cards or small gifts that require extra postage.

Designed by art director Ethel Kessler, Yes, I Do features the work of graphic artist Michael Osborne.

The Yes, I Do stamps are being issued in self-adhesive sheets of 20 at the 2-ounce rate.

Not nearly as attractive as previous year's versions. I'm curious though just where the "Yes" came from. I thought the traditional answer to the priest/rabbi/minister/JP's question was simply "I do". Did I screw this up too when I married my wife? Now I will admit that in a moment of excitement, a bride or groom could add this or any other additional comment to include "Yer durned tootin' I do!" or some such robust exclamation, but of course I wouldn't expect to see that on the stamp either. Since I haven't been to any weddings of late, perhaps this was a recent change to the rule book and I just missed it. Maybe I should just be happy that some young folks are actually getting married as marriage seems to be fading away faster than stamp collecting.
