While the turnover isn't the fastest, if you're an APS member, the online stampstore can yield some fairly nice pieces on occasion.

I just received the following two pieces today.

First a nice R119. Fairly large margins, pretty nice centering for the type, and very fresh color. These are most frequently found with cut/herringbone cancels. The accompanying APS cert says that it has a thin, but it must be a very tiny one. It's not apparent under magnificiation or when the stamp is held to bright light. Presumably a dip in watermark fluid would reveal it.

Thin or not, at under 20% of Scott delivered, I'm quite pleased.

Secondly, a type that, even though I have 4 or 5 examples of already, I never pass them by: R112b, sewing machine perfs. This one has very large margins and just the faintest impression of an embossed cancel.

Considerably higher percentage of Scott than the above stamp, but this is one I'd easily pay full Scott for.

Second issue paper is so thick, soft, and uneven that it is easy for people to think it has a thin when it does not.
