They look GREAT ! The 2nd one down looks to be a 348 or 384 depending on watermark.

Where did you pick them up ??

At a local stamp show in MD.

I am actually going to return the CSA 6, as I realized when I got home I already had a XF-MNH copy.
No biggie.

You might think about returning the 348 too. It is almost certainly a fake.

Daryl, the holes look too round, too clean, too big, and they don't gauge consistently. I doubt there is anything more commonly faked than these perf 12 coils. Why don't you post on the VSC for another opinion? I could be wrong but I don't think so. A bigger image would be helpful too. Winston

I don't think I need to do that. They don't even align top and bottom...

This is what happens when you just go buy what the dealer says.

Lucky for me, my dealer is a straight arrow and will accept it back for another stamp or cash.

The perfs don't align? They don't need to. They just should be parallel, and gauge correctly. Also, it is the top row of perfs that I have the trouble with. I am honestly unsure whether it is a fake or a reperf. I think a fake is more likely. A better image would help...

Daryl, as Winston stated the perf 12 coils are probably the most common fraudulent Washington?Franklin. a few things to always check fro the double line issues:
1. Watermark must be horizontal. The booklet panes are often used to counterfeit these issue and the 180 subject booklet plate had a vertical watermark. 12 of the 16 1c and 32 of the 44 2c booklet plates were 180 subject and would be vertical watermark.

2. Perf 12 is not perf 12. There are 4 varieties of perf 12 produced from 1861 to the conversion to perf 10. The W/F are 12-66.25 with 1mm pin. This means that the spacing from center to center of the perfs is .06625 inch and the hole diameter is 1mm. It is easy to fool a regular perf gauge but an accurate measurement across 10 perfs will often show an error.

3. The perf wheels were independent so that the holes don't need to align from top to bottom. The perfs on top and bottom are parallel and the .06625 spacing is consistent.

4. The DL coils were stripped with a 21 knife stripper so the 2 side edges are always parallel.

I will create another scan at 600dpi as soon as I can.
and post it.
It wasn't an expensive stamp so I am not terribly upset, and the seller is a good guy, so I know he will take it back.
I will retest the stamp myself and post when I can.

Is that a fair reason for returning a stamp? I would think a dealer might push back a bit...
