"International Cake Express"- does anybody know anything about this business? What's the point- I mean why would you pay to ship a cake from Australia to the Netherlands when you can just pick one up at the local bakery?

I believe the highest full time post office in the US is about 80 miles from my home; Alma, Colorado at 10,300'. One of my "bucket list projects" is to hand letter some covers and mail from there to various friends. But who knows when?

According to USPS "Fun Facts" at the link below, the highest elevation post office in the US is not Alma, CO but Leadville, CO at 10,150':

http://about.usps.com/who-we-are/po...come.htm#H11

That's not to say that Alma, CO may not be higher in elevation, but apparently the physical location of the post offices in those communities makes a difference.

A quick internet search shows that there have been some now-closed post offices in the US that were higher in elevation, most notably Climax, CO (which I understand is now a ghost town) once had a claim to fame of having the highest elevation post office in the US; and back in the early days of the 20th century there was a post office operating from 1906-1912 in the former town of Waldorf, CO (also a ghost town) that was said to be at an elevation of 11,666'.

Whatever may be the highest elevation post office in the US, at those elevations it's all too high for me ... I'm very content living on the East Coast at or near sea level!

Sorry to have hijacked this thread, but onto the original cover posted for International Cake Express or "Intercake", NSW, Australia, I can find little information on the company, but I suspect it worked along the lines of FTD or Teleflora florists, where one would order the item at one location and they would "wire" the order to another location worldwide who would then prepare and deliver it to the addressee. I doubt there was ever any effort to physically "ship" a cake halfway around the world.

Today, there is a firm also known as Intercake, but it was only established within the past decade as a business whereby you can design a specially printed cake that would be shipped to a recipient, however that company doesn't date back to 1964 and since it is based in the UK, it is unclear if they have any locations in Australia.

Let's see if anyone else chimes in with any additional information.
