I have never made an exhibit before. I contacted my local post office and asked if they would be interested in a philatelic display. I was put in touch with the public relations person and she said yes. I am thinking of using my Abe Lincoln covers. I do not know how much space I will be allowed in some display cases. Should I write up a description of the covers? I want to educate and promote stamps at the same time. If all goes well, I hope to do a 2nd display using my route 66 collection.

I have never done a philatelic display but I have helped my kids with many science fair displays and I think the same principles would apply.

I think you are right to use one theme. You could probably start with a brief description of how and when you started your collection and then a general description of what you look when you're searching for covers or stamps. I would include some history for each cover as well. the one thing I would advise is not to make your display too busy and keep the font simple, making the titles bold and larger.

The size of the font should be easy to read also. I guess you would have to find out how much room they will allow first.

Hopes this helps you

Dianne

Dianne,
I was thinking of a brief narrative. I am going by the PO today to see what my space constraints are. Also, someone else told me to double check the possibility of direct sunlight, that could cause fading and discoloration.

Dude - I would think you could prepare it as if it were for a formal exhibit. Here is a link to one as a reference:http://users.nac.net/stef/franklin/
