I acquired this envelope a while ago. I've been wondering if it is some fort of error, or just a really bad printing. Thoughts?

Overinked, not in the catalog. Worth a small premium, but I've seen a lot of them. |

Yes, inking freak, over inked. Two schools of thought, 1) wow, an efo but really just an f and 2) a defective envelope. |

Noooooooooo.
EFO's - found mixed in with regular stamps - maybe 50,000 good sheets, 1 bad sheet, on folded paper, yielding an imperforate pair, something like that; or misregistration of the colors, one color 1mm out of alignment, unnoticed by inspectors. Or over-inked.
Printer's waste - some horrendous mistake in a whole batch - put into secure disposal to be shredded or burned, but a crafty janitor retrieves a few and sneaks them out of the building, that kind of scenario. Often not even "finished" stamps. |

I side with doug2222. I have a high bar on my definition of printers' waste. In fact, after 20 years I declare all printers' waste to be fair game (personal opinion, not an ANSI standard).
jobi01's definition imposes a retroactive 9 sigma QA regimen on the envelope manufacturing process. You could do it, but why? |

You have to forgive me, but what is an EFO? It is a term I have seen for years but have yet to figure out. I have assumed that "e" is for error, "f" is for freak. But what is the "o"?
