So I just tried to post a looking for U.S. Stamps. A "New Post" in the buy and sell section. I found out I have to pay SC F in order to buy from a SCF member. I have to be a site supporter. This is as bad as ebay. <<Family Friendly Remember?>> What a rip off!

Posting this thread is a BAD idea....
First, calm down. Second, watch your language.

This is a relatively new policy. There's a thread around somewhere explaining it.
Most of are here to be social and to learn from some really knowledgeable people - not for the auctions. The latter is a side benefit.
Enjoy the site for what it was created for. Learning and socializing.

Quote: What a rip off! Let's see... -- we ALL get to post questions for free -- we ALL get to read excellent information in these threads for free You are right, we are ripping off SCF. But fortunately, a thank you to the administrators of this site suffices -- and many times they don't even get a thank you. I am not one of the administrators nor moderators. Thank you all for the money, time, and knowledge you all put into this site. k |

Lets see after I have settled down a little bit what really, what upset me. And YES the SCF is a GREAT site. I agree with all the positive comments about the SCF Forum completely and how it serves it's members. But let me explain what upsets me. First I wanted to buy, if someone had a Setnant that is valued at $2.50 Scott value.{Plus my payment to buy or sell on this site. Minimum $5 "Supporter" makes that Setenant $7.50 plus the person who sells to me His/Her minumum "Supporter" $5.00 makes this Setenant now up to $12.50. Do you see the whole picture? I can see/understand charging the $5 to sellers but don't agree with the buyers end. Now that I have that off my chest. Have a Great day and thanks "SCF" for a great site and service to fellow Stamp collectors. By the way I tried to find the link to the thread that Rileysan mentions. No luck so far. |

I believe the major thread on this issue is here: https://goscf.com/t/25872There is no expense to buy from someone who has listed something...the 'Supporter' requirement comes in when you start a new thread wanting to buy something. |

I will be in a couple of days. That is if I don't get kicked out. Oh and I did find the link and read all four pages. Seemed here was quite a discussion about the policy and a lot of controversy. I guess those who want will become a supporter and those who choose not to join just won't be able to post on that topic. |

Tinman... Pay attention... you don't have to be a supporter to BUY. Just to SELL. |

But you cannot post a want list or make a post about wanting a particular stamp. That's what he was complaining about.
I had typed up a whole list one time to get the message that I wasn't a supporter prevent me from doing it. I can feel his frustration. You can actually click on "New Topic", type a whole message and then you find out you can't post it when you hit the submit button |

TinMan, you might like to chew over this idea: Suppose all the Supporters stopped putting in their couple of dollars a month. How long do you suppose SCF would survive, as it is now? |

There is no such thing as a "Free Lunch." All the computer runtime, capacity (housing), computers, programming, maintenance and image posting costs SCF money at some point. If you are receiving a benefit, you should be willing to contribute. I've only been on this Forum a few days and I am beginning to see its benefits.
Also, I am not an SCF employee or an employee-relation. |

Stampvirgin - That must also apply to trading too because I posted an image asking anyone who had military cancels similar to the ones I posted, that I would be interested in trading. The posting NEVER made it to the forum for all to see.
My question now is, does the old rule that you need at least 50 postings to trade is now redundant (????). Do you need to be a supporter to trade as well?
I think this is a fair question?

If would be nice if the buy section was free to post on, but to reply to a buy post, you have to be a supporter. But that's not the way it is. So, I'll stick with what we have. |
