Does anyone on the board collect United States proofs of any sort? Trial colors, P2's, P3's, Essays, Vignettes, Large die proofs, Small die proofs, etc...?

I'm pondering either selling off the ones I currently own (pictured below)or adding to them. Having said that though I do love my match & medicine essays and proofs (not pictured)but I'm not positive where I want to go with them yet? Do you think they would sell for a decent value if I did decide to offer them up for sale? I'd most likely sell them for about what I have into them (which isn't a lot) just to help finance my search for the classic imperfs of 1851 to 1861-ish.

I am also pondering getting at least one of every design up to the large banknotes but that will obviously take some time to complete. Not sure on what to do quite yet? I'm not asking for an answer per-say but maybe some guidance as to whether it would literally be worth my effort?

I collect Official Proofs. For some odd reason I don't collect regular Postage Stamp proofs, just the officials. I like them becaus they are actually cheaper for the most part than the regular Stamps, plus the engraving is beautiful. I would keep adding to them since they are affordable and also make a nice compliment to the Stamp.

I think I will take your advice James. I may complete the sets then ponder selling...maybe? Thank you.

Proofs are what actual postage stamps aspire to be. You will likely never have better quality stamps than your proofs. My opinion ... keep them!

I would keep collecting them too.

They are different than most collections as well and Proofs always add flavour to a collection.

I just looked at a seller offering a bunch of proofs from regular issues to officials all starting at the $20 mark. If I bookmarked I will send you message. Actually just a general search and wow 1200+ results and great prices considering. If I started it would be hard to leave since even rare classic oldies are a fair price. Still would require a budget that may distract you from regular issues. Do you get 5+ proofs or 1 classic?

I've decided to keep them and add to them and complete the sets. They are, for me, a nice distraction when the stamp burnout hits. They are affordable and look great too.
Thank you very much.
