This is a stamp I received today in the mail from a dealer on ebay that had this marked as a Scott #14 type II. It is an absolute train wreck. It has a big repair on a bottom corner and what looks to be perforation remnants on the right side. A trimmed #33 (which would be identical to a scott #15, & but perforated I believe?) They was printed from the same printing plates anyway. What are your thoughts on this? Also, Advice on maybe how to handle this situation with this dealer. I never had to take any action before and I'm certainly not confrontational in sort of way but feel like I been taken. Weather it was intentional or not I really don't know but it's a dealer that I never used before this purchase. Thank you for any input you may offer. Here is the source of my plating information also (I was toying with the notion to try my hand at plating these.)- http://www.uspcs.org/the-1851-1860-...0-10c-issue/Obverse: Reverse:

The back looks to be in brutal condition. If it was mis-identified by the seller than a return should be no issue. Remember, you are the customer so demand satisfaction and settle for nothing less, in a professional manner. |

Thank you stallzer. edit: What really burns me is that I could have bought a real nice certified #15 instead but, of course, thrifty me, I chose this one so I could grab a few more wants too. Bad decision however it would have fine if it was the right stamp so... I'll just do this for awhile-> Then learn from all this. I would still enjoy a little insight on this stamp however. |

Definitely Type II with the line complete at top, so if trimmed, would be trimmed #32, and it certainly appears to be trimmed. Shame-- the margins are still really nice. At some point, before the perfs were damaged, then trimmed, this would have been an EXCELLENT #32. |

This is definitely not an original imperf.. perf holes are still visible. Why did they do this? a 32 is more valuable then a 14 or 15. |

I wouldn't advise what to do unless you linked the original listing so that we get the complete picture of the transaction. I think $33 is at least twice as much as what this stamp is worth, however.
I doubt very much that this is a trimmed-down perforated stamp. Those aren't perf remnants at right and the paper doesn't look like 1857+ paper. |

I'm not going to mince words or spare your feelings. You got ripped off and would be foolish not to return this stamp. The auction description makes no mention of the faults, and the picture is fuzzy & small. If you don't do something about it, the seller assumes he can get away with ripping off the next buyer.
Tell us you're going to return this for a full refund. Lie to us if you have to, but please don't use the excuse "I only spent $33.00"

Jeff, the above response is kind of cryptic, but if you mean 'am I agreeing with those other guys', then yes. Afraid so. |
