fotofila , welcome to join SCF and many thanks for explaining the American-Chinese Letter Office and the 6th line "jiu li-¾ÆÀý"! Great to hear your achievements, at that time I was only one year old, I look forward to learning more knowledge from you, and hope you will start a new contribution for China philately. I will lost my translation role finally. ZhangCheng |

Mr. Cheng. I see you are doing a great job. I see your name repeatedly here. Sadly that I sold my China by Robson, Lowe too early, before President Nixon visited China. I sold my Small Dollar at US$10,000 in 1985. But, I made money on it. LOL! Now, I am collecting Latin Amarica, especially Mexico and Guatemala, as I also have a resident in Mexico as well as in the USA. By the way, I am a proud Chinese. |

Mr. fotofila, thanks for your praise, I am too new in philately, no money and no knowledge, I read English by a translation software, sometimes when I find SCF members asked for Chinese to English language, I sometimes done the translation for SCF members but lead them to wrong at most time. SCF member Mr. Philb has the same interest for Guatemala materials, you will meet him. By the way, what does "Small Dollar" mean? The China red revenue? |

When I just came to the US as a student in college, a Small Dollar was obtainable for about US$1000. That was in 1960s. A year of expeses in college, tuition, college room and boaard all together cost about US$600. I wass buying China #84, the large $1 for $10 a peice. I sold them quickly by sending them to Taiwam for $20. I sold hundreds of them! Siegel auction sold a unique pair of #83 for $2700 in 1963. I still remember it very vividly today. Mr. Woo Loyuan in Taiwan one time had about ten Small $1s in his catalog for about $1000~2000 each. I still have the catalog somewhere. By 1980s, a Small $ was sold about $7~8000 and that was wnen I bought mine. |

Mr.fotofila, thanks for sharing these, exciting past and price, there are 30+ mint and one used recorded in the world, if Mr. Woo Loyuan had an unsalable sale at that time for these... |

There are about 40 known. One used donated by Ma Ren Chuan to the government. My old friend Hwang Kuan-chen, who passed away many years ago in the Phillipines, wrote a book on tracking down all the existing copies. He did a wonderful monumental job on this task. I did some contribution to his work at the time and you can find my name in that book. |
