When you look at a map like this, how many countries can you name ?
How many do you think there are ?

I found a site that lists 249 in English, French and local....meaning what the people living there call their country. 3 columns in that order, looking at just the third column I was very pleased that I recognized most of the local names.....a few I didn't recognize really surprized me......how well do you know the world ? How many more do you need to have a stamp from everywhere ? (no list of "dead" countries)

I think this would help some folks when trying to identify a stamp. At the bottom of the list there are options to see the same list in a number of other languages...a list of world languages...Independent States....populations and more.

I guest I'm just not normal because I can name most of the countries though the small size is having fun with my eyes. As far as stamps go I would have to really go through my daughters but combined I doubt we have more than 40 countries.

I keep a world globe close at hand for locating countries
that I am not familiar with--it sure helps.

As a 20 year Navy veteran and Army Brat, I've lived in or visited 24 of the listed countries at last count. Even so, there were some surprises for me. It reminds me that I need to do another Unusual Places thread.

I finally have some better Bank Notes to send you Dianne to replace those that I sent with the other shipment of stamps. I felt bad that I didn't have ones in better shape when I included them with the stamps I sent to you. So we will bring you into the 1880's with some nicer USA stamps.
