Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum. I'm wondering if anybody could point me to a source (if it exists) that would announce in advance of a stamp's issuance that something would be printed on the back of the pane of the stamp--and how it is printed (utilizing the whole pane or just the back of each stamp).

I've searched high and low with no success. Thanks.

I don't think the average stamp collector can get this information.

The only source I know of is the Postal Bulletin (which is available on the USPS website), but when technical specifications of the stamps are announced, it merely mentions that text is included, but does not detail whether it is confined to one stamp or encompasses the entire reverse side of the pane.

In most instances, I have found that stamps of a common design within a pane will have the text spread out on the reverse side; whereas those issues with multiple designs on a stamp will often result in text on the reverse of each stamp design. But that's no guarantee it's always done that way; it's just an observation of what appears to be common practice.

After researching for this myself, I have found that The Postal Bulletin somewhat states that there will be information printed on the back.
http://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/pb2013.htm

It is in the stamp issuance section. Currently it's the "stamp services" section.
On the grid for the new stamp announcements, Then it's the last field under "Back". The muscle cars stamp is a little more detailed than usual, normally it says only "Verso Text".
As for anything else, I haven't seen such. It looks like only commemorative stamps for 1st class has this that I know of thus far.
Also, in my very limited experience, I've seen the text behind every stamp on Scouting, but that issue doesn't mention anything about it being in that format.

Unless someone corrects me, the key word is "Verso Text" on that back field, when that's not in the field, there's no paragraphs of text.

Many thanks for all the useful info. I'd particularly look out for the word "verso text" as pointed out by jeffy100b. I don't think the way the text is printed on the back follows a particular pattern. The scouting stamp is one example where the text is printed on the back of each stamp (rather than utilizing the whole pane), even though the issue has just one design.

Perhaps it's just me, but I'd collect whole panes (instead of individual stamps) if doing so would allow me to capture something extra that is missing from individual stamps. Factors in the past only included stamp issues with more than one design (for se-tenant), presence of a pane header, and selvage matters (aside, that is, from the usual USPS logo, price, etc.). However, since USPS started to print text on the back, it has made my decision a lot more difficult.

I'm relatively new to this aspect, but now I buy whole panes for the text. I'm glad you posted because I had wanted to start a thread, maybe, on if this is collectable or not. I use most of my new stamps, decide I like using the mail better, however to collect the pane and a stamp, I would need to collect more than a pane. Unless one takes the gum off the back.
