Hi chipg,

Two reasons.
(1) I prefer Showgard mounts to Hawid mounts because I find stamps can move about in the Hawid mounts and sometimes slide out completely.
(2) As mobilman44 said in his original post not all stamp sizes have mounts or mount strips made for them by the manufacturers.

Damaging stamps when inserting them into mounts can happen with any mount type. It isn't the mount at fault it's lack of control on our part.

I do agree that it is easier to simply adapt a larger Hawid mount to make a smaller size open top Hawid mount. I just don't like their open top design. All down to personal choice really.
