Hi everyone

My curiosity about cancellations from USA is increasing.
I have some doubts now.
Do some 'Fancy Cancel' were also Duplex?
What is the first model Duplex Cancel Standard? (Same model for all)

Does this type of postmark would be a standard duplex cancel? I have seen several images of the same cancel type in different cities.

Not a duplex cancel. Target cancel with 2 Circular date stamps (Postmarks used as cancels).

This is what a duplex cancel looks like.

Good site on the different cancels used.

That is a C.D.S. & a bulls-eye cork cancellation. I have examples of the two together as a sort of duplex (by definition) as I'm not sure that's the correct terminology for it however? Also, That is a wonderful looking advert cover you have there! Congrats!

It could possibly be a duplex. The Rockford CDS looks larger than what would normally be on a duplex.

Below is the drawing from an early Norton patent canceller.

A bit off topic, but I was fascinated by the advertising cover from the tree and shrubbery company posted in the original scan, as addressed to W.C. Flagg (a/k/a Willard Cutting Flagg) of Alton, Illinois. In researching the addressee, I came up with his image and biography, which always sheds fresh light on an old cover:

Here is an example of a similar double-circle datestamp duplex with four ring cancellation that was used in New Orleans in 1864. I pulled the image from a Matthew Bennett auction.

Per the U.S. Stamp Society Glossary, duplex handstamps were first introduced in the 1860s and continued in use through the 1940s.

Perhaps the most common ones were, but there have been documented usage of duplex cancels as late as the 1970s. Here's one example:
