USA Cancel - What Denomination Is This Type Of Cancellation?

This cancelations types ...Does it have a name or denomination?

I'm beginner in this cancelations, you must very much patience with me.

Some cancelations include letters (A, B, C...) or numbers (
1, 2, 3, 4)
is this numbers or letters differents Stations Postal?

It is a duplex cancel.

Ive wondered too what the letters and numbers mean. I thought maybe the numbers were for a particular postal worker????

I am inclined to think that the number / initial in these duplex cancellations is either the hammer number or post office identification since both covers are from large and major size cities. They could also be applied to employees using these hammers because there would most definately be more than one hammer in use to expedite the mail.

This is a theory of mine anyway <G>.

I'm not sure about the Texas cancel, but the letters in New York City cancels indicate the Post Office Station, in this case Station A.

At the other extreme, there have been known duplex cancels to have relatively high numbers, such as in this example:



Referencing back to the New York City duplex cancels, there have also been duplex cancels specially naming the station such as Church Street Station, Madison Square Station or Times Square Station, as in these examples:
