Catalog value for a single on cover is $12,500. I don't recall ever having seen a pair on cover. |

I have see a few auction listings with the American Postal Machine flag cancelbut this is the firts I have seen with the Columbia Postal Supply machine cancel. I didn't realize that the Attleboro were used in 1914. Do you know what the LKU was? |

I would have some pretty serious doubts about this cover if it was mine. Why was it cancelled twice, for starters. I have questions about that double oval. I also have doubts about the stamps being genuine Attleboro coils, they do not look like the ones I have seen. This is not my area, and I could be wrong, but this cover would need a cert for sure for me to believe it. |

Plus the genuine stamps were used in the summer and fall of 1909. Why would it be on a cover from 1911? |

revcollector, The date would have to be 1914. The Columbia machine was not install until 1913. |

The 'lines' on the stamps are very not straight...(to my eyes) unlike the rest of the cancel. |

Look up Attleboro Stamp Co. in the Vending and Affixing Machine perforations section of the Scott Specialized. They were a company who produced an affixing machine for bulk mailings; each company that produced a machine for that purpose used some form of private perforation coil to accomplish the task. |

Thanks for the reply. Very interesting to me. I'll have to check this out further. Attleboro is my home town and I've never heard of this company. |

I have searched the Attleboro coil and compared images with the cover in the opening post.
Is it the opinion of the original poster that these are coils produced by the Attleboro Stamp Co.? The two stamps on the cover do not appear to be joined, so they are not a pair. Also, they just do not look like the image on the Arago site or the Siegel site.
The top stamp though, does seem to have the center notch.

I don't have the cover in my possession. It belongs to a friend.
The Attleboro affixing machine applied stamps one at a time and was in use in 1909. It wasn't possible to apply a pair to a cover.
The return address on this cover is that of the owner of the Attleboro Stamp Company. Covers from this return address are known. Pure speculation is that he used these stamps on his personal mail for some time after the affixing machine was no longer in use. These two may have been applied seperately or as a pair and the canceling machine may have nudged them apart. The notch on the bottom stamp appears to be covered by some type of chad, perhaps one of the tabs that held them together.
This cover will ultimately have to be sent in for certification. The last cover from this return address that I saw, only had one stamp on it and sold for $6250 in Siegel sale #990.

All the Attleboro covers on Siegel's powersearch or the PF site only had one cancel; none had a cancel remotely as late as the second cancel here. I think someone found a cover used later by the stamp company and added two faked stamps and a fake cancel to it. However as has been said, it will need to go to the PF or some other expertizing group for analysis. |
