hello again

i am asking about precancels again.
some of these stamps seem to be a little different that others I have seen.
i know that there are many types and have been to the precancel site but a few of these seems a little different.
i just like the design of the 5 cent roosevelt.
the two 8 cents and the 20 cent look a little different from what I have seen.
is the 1/2 cent pair a precancel?
i also just like the 25 cent.

i am sorry if I ask about precancel so much but just like to know what I have if I have anything of value.

thanks dan

I do not know values, but the 1/2 cent appears to be a local precancel that was applied by hand possibly a roller. That is the extent of my knowledge and I could be wrong.

i just do not have the money now to purchase books about precancels.
i have been on the precancel sites but I guess just with the various precancels it is hard to give values.

thanks for your help.

i think the more I know the less I know

You may want to contact the yahoo precancel group as they specialize and may be able to consult a pricing catalog.

Keep your eyes open for any Americana Series stamps with precancels, Phil. Even the common ones have varieties I am looking for.

From what I have read so far, precancels with the date and city/state
are worth more. I am just a beginner at precancels but find them very interesting!

I think it's pretty cool that two of your stamps have both perfins and precancels

Dated precancels (which usually look like the date was rubber stamped above the city on a typical precancel) were usually used by catalogue shippers. Most of the time, they come from Chicago (Sears) and Montgomery, Alabama (Montgomery-Ward), and are usually found on the Prexie series. Exceptions do occur though.

Worth more than regular precancels? Actually most precancel collectors consider them to be less desirable, believe it or not, from what I've read. They're totally unattractive because of the way the dates were added in most cases.

WpgLwr, what can you tell me about the precancels where the dates were part of the type set-not added later as most were done.
I have very little info on them but weren't there fewer produced in that way?
And how about the precancels that had the full state's name printed instead of the shortened versions--are they worth more ?

Thanks-any info you can share would be much appreciated!

David Giles..no problem I will set any Americana series precancels aside for you..i am mainly interested in the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s ..i have seen precancel collections with better stamps in them.but the ones I come accross are the run of the mill prexies,etc..i assume them to be minimum value...it would be difficult to give value to a perfin or a pre cancel..they should be collected for fun ...
