Brown & Sharpe of Providence, RI, precision toolmaker. Note the "L" is not a letter but is supposed to reflect a machinist's square, which is the company's trademark:

I believe it says "Providence, Rhode Island." That was the city the company was in at the time. See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_%26_Sharpe

No. I have the perfin on the 1-1/2-cent Harding stamp from the 1922-26 series. I imagine the company had perfins on every denomination of stamps for their varied postal needs.

Excellent ! Londonbus, if you'd like this pre-cancel let me know and I'll zip it off to you. What a great idea, collecting perfins with your initials. I do it with the Great Britain QV corner letter stamps already so now another avenue to put me into the poor house.
