My father introduced me to stamp collecting in 1955, when I was 8. I continued with it until I was 25 when I decided to quit, mostly for political reasons. After my father died four years ago and I brought home his stamps to sell on ebay, I decided to collect stamps once again, at 57. Consecutively numbering every package of hinges I have opened since then, I am now on #53, meaning I have mounted more than 52,000 stamps in about four years, not all in my main collection though I'm working on it. I guess you can call that making up for lost time!

I guess great minds think alike. Its not an exact way to keep track of the number of stamps in my collection, but pretty darn close. PS.. I keep one spare package just to re-hinge stamps that may break loose from the original or if I decide to re-position a stamp to another page. I am up to package 44 |

Great Godfrey ! I keep track of some things..but packages of hinges would never work as I use mounts as well..i purchased two huge boxes of mounts at 2 estate sales one for $100 and one for $30..the 30 dollar carton might have been larger..but when you buy like that you are paying pennies a pack for mounts I couldnt resist...a bigger shock I received was when one collector said he cut his hinges in two..and others said they did the same...some things get carried too far !! |

What with, sorting, soaking (when possible), watermarking, perforating, dies, secret marks (not to mention perfins, precancels postmarks and "The King & I"; when does one have time to count hinges? And cutting hinges in two( that's on the order of separating 2 ply t-paper into 1 ply.
Phil: BTW: thanks for the initial intro to this site. Bonnie wants to know if you're still doing the school work. See bobg4 is here. Bonnie says he's the Steve Martin of the stamp world. But seriously, she says he is a walking encyclopedia and if he doesn't, he'll find it for you in about 10 seconds.
Dianne:Unlike school, all newbies are welcomed wholeheartedly.
 |

I have often thought about counting the number of stamps that I have. It has grown so fast over the past year that I have no idea what the count would be. My best guess is between 8,000 and 10,000.
Wow if I could get a nickle a stamp that would be $500. That would almost cover the albums, binders, stock books and misc supplies.
The only thing I can say Modern is that is a lot of licking.

Phil:
With all those boxes you have at your home, from the boxlots you purchased; Nani and I wouold come down for a visit in the Spring. We'd noty have to go to a stamp show. I'll just bring my $100 (American) and go through your boxes. I'm sure i'd find something to spend my money on!

Gussyboy..UNTEA (UNITED NATIONS TEMPORARY EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY)
An agreement was signed between Indonesia government and Dutch government for the West Irian case on August 15th, 1962 at United Nation headquarter in New York.
The point of the agreement was the Dutch government should handover the authority of the West Irian to United Nations Temporary Executive Authority (UNTEA) latest October 1st, 1962. Afterword, it will handover to Indonesian government on May 1st, 1963.
