Hi All

Can anyone give me any information on the U.S. censor marking on this Mexican cover. The Mexican cancellation is dated December 12, 1942.

Thanks a lot.

These Censorship handstamps also identified the location of the Censor office. The four "O" at the bottom of the CDS indicate Laredo, Texas. Similarly, a three "O" device was used at San Antonio, Texas and a two "O" device was used at El Paso, Texas. There is probably one with a single "O", but I've not got a record of one.

Bujutsu,

Nice cover! Here is some more information for your collection:

The addressee, "19 So. LaSalle St." is in the heart of downtown Chicago (the Loop). The building was designed by Jenney & Mundie, built in 1893, and is noted among historians as a significant early example of the "Chicago School" of architecture. For postal historians, it was the Central office building of the YMCA (until the mid 1990's), hence the "Chicago Congregational" sub-addressee and note to "please forward."

I find all those little bits and pieces part of the fun of collecting, too.

I have learned a lot of helpful knowledge here on SCF from you, Bujutsu, and a host of others. As a new member, I am happy to have the opportunity to give back, even if it's just a little extra trivia here and there.
