I just dabble with Envelope Stamps, but these two caught my eye. Scott Specialized only mentions a "Blue" for U330. Are these just different shades of the same envelope? (One on right definitely looks darker to me.)

The one on the right seems typical for the issue. The one on the left has a grey component that is unusual.

I see that there is another version of this cut envelope, identified as U377. Scott says, "similar to design of 1887-95, but smaller." Is it possible the color changed slightly also? Doesn't seem any smaller, but I don't have any other ideas.

Shade varieties happen for a number of reasons with the typical reason being the thickness of the ink applied. The number 2 reason is humidity which affects #1. And, of course, variations in the ink components. Measuring methods were rough and lighting was not the best, frequently being sunlight through dirty windows, so variations in the completed ink formula also occur.
