I save the meters if they look interesting (i.e. different models of postage meter machines have different indicias). I also save them if there is an unusual postage rate applied. For example, I received a few recently in metered denominations of 14.6 cents and 20.3 cents (both Presort Standard) and another at 36.0 cents (Presort First Class).
It does make for an interesting sub-collection, especially when all of those business entities can get to send discounted mail at a whole array of different rates. |

Just clipped a few for a friend that collects windmills. One thing though I have noticed. The more advanced and higher speed processing has given way to very poor cancels. |

I save them if they are fancy. I also have some of the older types too. Meters are 'slowly' making their mark in the philatelic world.
Some 50 or 60 years ago, Cinderella stamps and perfins were going through the same dilemma. Look at the popularity of these stamps now.

Not a peacock. They are not native to Guatemala. On the other hand, this is . . . The Resplendant Quetzal. It ranges from southern Mexico to western Panama, and lives only in the highlands. Here is one in flight. |

I save all my mail covers until my wife asks what I am going to do with them. Then I sort through several hundred and place in two piles: as an example, 10-15 in one pile and 150 or so in another. Then I through the 10-15 away. |

I don't get much mail, but my mother does, and when she can, she keeps it for me. I do save all meters, either as full covers, or as strips (including the "corner card"). It is always best to save meters in a way that shows the name of the group or company that used that particular meter.
There are still some meter numbers out there that have not been found, or that have been found, but it is not known what company issued them. |

I started keeping all my mail. I do not receive many though. Everything postal related in stamps and envelopes and stationery is interesting to me now. |
