Just when I thought I'm safe with no more gum problems here comes Cold Flow. This is a physical phenomena that may occur over time with self-adhesive stamps. The adhesive could seep out around the edges of the stamp. When this does occur the stamps should be carefully removed from its mount and laced in a new one.

This is why everything I collect, save for the Americana Series plateblocks, are used.

Not sure I have to worry about Cold flow except the stuff is coming down from Canada. We're freezing our assets off down here
at 40 degress, gonna have to move to the keys.
Anyway, I'm with Giles, only collect used in the self adhesives.( see my post in December topic for safe way to get them suckers off paper). only if its in a whole seten sheet like Star Wars or Great Lakes Dunes but I ain't crazy about it. I prefer used stamps anyway.

Of course I'm an idiot. The first thing I thought of was you having to visit a dentist!

I aven't experienced "cold flow," but then again, I don't collect many mint issues. I'm wondering if this is going to happen to the self-adhesives over time.

I haven't experienced this, yet...

Stampaholic, it has already been to 23 degrees on several days here in Illinois. 40 degrees is considered a nice day in winter (almost Spring) LOL

I'm no expert on modern gum, but with the USPS allowing it's printing contractors to remove the water-soluable layer between the stamp and the gum, to save money... read between the lines. Do you really think the stamp printers are going to use archival paper and adhesives on the new American stamps? I doubt it.

Too bad the BEP doesn't print stamps anymore. At least theirs was a class act.

I should have known David. You can expect only the best from the USPS.

That's a rhyme by the way.

Well, that's not the reason I collect mainly used stamps (distinctive cancels just make a stamp that much more special and the greed of the USPS is just outrageous). But it is yet another reason I feel I made the right decision for me.
