Anyone care to analyze that postcard a little bit? Who was the manufacturer? First of all we need to see the card in the proper orientation and a bit larger, so here it goes:

I can see what appears to be a small heart in the LL corner with the what appears to be the letters "L&S" or "L+S" or "LAS" within it. Does that identify the maker? Is there any information on the reverse side of the card that would identify the maker?

Curious minds would be interested to know.

[edit]

Upon closer observation of the enlarged image, the identifer seems to be the initials "EAS" within a heart. This resulted in the following information on the postcard maker:

Quote:
EAS stands for E. A. Schwerdtfeger & Co. (Berlin; 1894-1920). They also has a London and New York office. Their logo is an E&S within a heart.

Wow, that IS an unusual card! Front is printed sideways, the back is inverted. And why were all these cards printed in Germany?

Most of the high quality pre WW1 postcards were printed in Germany. After WW1, they were no longer printed over there and the quality dropped down considerably.

This is a blow up of Schwerdtfegers logo

I think the backs may vary, but on this one the logo is also on the header bar. This is a card printed on magenta paper. The back has red printing. The center divider says "This is a real photograph." The printing on the left edge says "Published by E. A. Schwerdtfeger & Co., London E. C. printed at their works in Berlin."
