A lady at the flea market brought me a stack about 100 East Germany
(DDR) FDC's. they were actually mailed to someone from somebody else.
I'm not sure but that must have taken some diligent scheduleing.
Anyway, all are 1970-1972. what they worth? A buck each?
would the actual use as an FDC make them worth any more?
On the same subject,i have noticed that cancellations on DDR
stamps that are actually use look the same as stamps that are CTO.
So, how do you tell the difference between a postally used stamp
and a CTO?

Most of the CTO stamps from DDR, that I have in my collection, still have the gum intact.

Ditto what Steve said. It' sometimes hard to tell, though. If the stamp has no gum and appears to have been soaked you are usually safe to assume it's postally used. That's not always the case though. If the cancel is just too perfect you might be suspicious.

Most of the Eastern European, countries, along with Russia
sold CTO stamps to the approval services, such as Harris, and Kenmore.

It was additional revenues for over produced stamps.

To determine if a stamp is Postally used or a CTO without gum, or the gum was soaked, is to look at the actual cancel.

Sheets of stamps were cancelled with one cancel hitting 4 stamps, I guess just to save time and labor costs.

Most CTO stamps, that are in my collection, only have 1/4 of a cancel.

We have inquired about CTO'S & their relation to FDC's on stampoffers chat in the past. Discussion involved soaking FDC's to get the stamp (which in some cases, anymore, it is about the only way to get the stamp used) My Q was does the FDC single and cancellation increase the value of the stamp. As I remember, a couple of the guys felt they are just like CTO's and not worth as much. On the other hand, I am of the opinion that singles of FDC's are potentially more valuable as only a certain number of
FDC's are issued by the USPS. What say you? (Big fan of Bill O'reilly)lol.
BTW: I just can't seem to get this photo thing to work. had it saying it was downloading but the pic never came through.Sorry.

If you are trying to download to photo bucket, then your original image is too big

Go back to your scanned image, and make it smaller, then try
transferring it to photo bucket
