I received a brochure recently and was surprised to see a nice CDS on it. I don't remember seeing one in a while. I wonder are they still commonly seen? Would this be something I should consider keeping intact?

They are not common, but they do still exist. The theory is that some post offices are still using the machine cancels for oversize envelopes.

Er, and yes, absolutely keep it.

Looks like it reads "SPRINGFIELD MOSS" instead of Mass.

It's Springfield, MO. with 658 after it indicating the first three digits of the zip code.

I created a thread last month for "machine cancels" that I had spotted. They were of the same exact nature as the cancellation that you have scanned. Unfortunately I have not the access to keep nor scan to show them.
All the ones I have seen in the other thread were on regular letter envelopes, I did not pay much attention to oversized or anything of the like.

Basically in April and May I've seen San Antonio, El Paso, New Orleans, Tampa, Jackson Mississippi, and Lubbock.
I won't be in a position to spot them anymore, so I have no clue as to any patterns of when regular mail goes through the machines. Regular mail does definitely get these on occasion. Unfortunately if they do, it probably goes to your bills.
