i was bored our stamp meeting is cancelled due to inclement weather so I was window shopping on ebay...collections and large lots..there was one lot..three albums full of stamps...thousands and thousands of stamps crudely hung on pages ....why would someone spend the money and energy to create an unsightly mess..just slapping dozens even hundreds of stamps on a messy page..does not make sense !!

Makes me wonder too. Some collections I have bought were meticulously put together, well organized, and neat. Others, though, the stamps were barely within the spaces for them, crooked, or not even close. Go figure.

I'm sure the shrinks would have a long, detailed explanation. I think some people are just naturally neat (anal-retentive) and others are slobs. How else would you explain Felix and Oscar?

My stamp album pages are probably the neatest and most well-organized part of the house.

My sock and underwear drawer is the definition of anal! Of course, so is my collection. Maybe someday I'll actually be able to show it to someone who cares and can appreciate it.

Mine, as well. I feel they are the one thing in my life over which I have
complete control.

(Wonder what Greg's shirnk would think about that?)

Swabbie, as for sock and underwear drawer, what's that? My wife is an
invalid, so I take care of her an everything else (and have gotten so
far behind on everything over the years that I probably shouldn't
even be reading this forum!). Naturally, the socks and underwear never
make it to a drawer, I just 'shop' for them from the laundry basket
on an 'as needed' basis.

Larry, that's also one of the top three reasons I collect. We seldom have control over anything in our lives these days.

My wife and I, with daytime help, cared for her mother 24/7 for over a year. I understand exactly what you're saying about time. I applaud you for all you do!

Maybe the collection belonged to a young child that didn't know any better.

News Flash! There are guys out there that purposely buy old albums, empty, fill'em with stamps and sell them on eBay
to make money. I know of 2 that buy from me at the flea market. He says he wants albums for his collection so I got him some.
He didn't want the excellent specialized Lighthouse france album or the Minkus Switzerland but the beginners album.
Oh, wait . He did buy the Israel album I had. He got two old German albums from me pulled all the stamps out and gave me the albums back. he said the stamps weren't very good, but he also said he didn't know about watermarks, so I told him about
them and gave him some of my old scott catalogs to help him. I say, Strange, but on the other hand he has given me some darn good stamps. And the other guy I know for a fact does it cause he said so.

Stampaholic How many days work and packs of hinges would this guy use to sell an album on the internet ???? Someone probably put in hundreds of hours putting stamps in the 3 binders ! I can see a guy buying a few albums and showing a few pages and call it a powerful collection...but not doing all that elbow work to sell something that goes for under a hundred dollars ...

My stamp collection is the only part of my personal life that is organized ... maybe I am compensating for having such an unorganized existence! LOL!
