I thought this card was quite interesting. The item that touches it off with me is the image of a zeppelin heading towards the building's beacon.

The card is unused, so, I don't know when it was published but I am guessing late 1930s, or maybe a card published in conjunction with the 1939 NYWF.

Great cards Bujutsu, all of them!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the top mast of the Empire State Building originally meant as a mooring mast for zeppelins? Seems I read that somewhere.

I am not sure on that jamesw, but, I think I think you could be right because zeppelin landings / moorings were the rage back then.

My reasoning calling it a beacon is because of the light rays emanating from the tower (?)

The beacon idea is also interesting, because I believe (again, correct me if you must) that tall buildings were required to have lights at the top partially (if not directly) because of the US military plane that crashed into this one during a fog.

This is what developers tried to sell the public on back in the day:

Although that was the plan, it not only proved impractical but the idea was later suggested to have been more of a "stunt" than what could actually have been "reality", based on this 2010 NY Times newspaper article:

Good point jamesw

That could be alright.

Not too long ago, I saw a documentary on that plane crash.

I found another image close to the topic of my original posting in this thread.

Also a good point too wt1

Had the powers that be gone ahead with the idea, it could have proven disastrous.

The only thing missing on the cards in here is King Kong
