I was rummaging around my office a couple of days ago and ran across a box of ebay purchases from 2011 most of which were not yet opened. Talk about delayed gratification! Anyway, I've started working through them and they are mostly fancy cancels. Since the list is pretty quiet for the holiday weekend, I thought it wouldn't hurt to share with you a few that seem more interesting to me than some of the others. Nothing is for sale, but let me know which item(s) are your favorites. Do you recognize any of these?

I really fancy both the donkey (Waterbury?) and the shield on the 7 cent Stanton! Heck they're all pretty neat! |

I think I like the kicking mule the best.
A lot of very desirable cancellations here.

Not just desirable cancellations - very desirable stamps! It is an unusually clean looking collection it seems. Why would you not open these for almost two years? I would have wanted to look at them the second they hit my mailbox! Peter |

That's a good question, Peter. I wish I had a good answer. But the fact is other projects and obligations kept coming first, and after a while they got sidelined. This forum is nudging me into giving them some attention again. BTW here's a link to some pics of cancels I posted in another thread. https://goscf.com/t/725&whichpage=16#280698 br / There you can see first hand where the kicking mule comes from, Jeff. I'm glad you're enjoying these. I'll keep poking away at them and from time to time may put up a few examples. If there's anything you'd like to see from the Bank Note era, let me know and if I have it I'll try to put it up. But we'd have better luck with that for essays, proofs, and experimentals. Oh, two of my favorites in this group are the Danbury hat, and the bold Sun & Moon, which you don't often see as full as on that stamp. |

Certainly a nice group. I wonder if the "H" cancel is Hudsonville, Michigan which was known to have a fancy cancel similar to the one shown? |

Been working with fancy cancels lately and thought I would share another batch of pics of some of my recent favs: Some of these are fairly well known I think. Recognize any? |

In the top batch, I like the crescent and dot. In the second batch, it's the star in a cicle (top right). But, they're all great. |

In the top picture, it is a tie for me. I like the donkey and the black maltese cross.
In the second picture, I can't decide! They are are very unique. |

I like the purple Maltese Cross in the first group. The color combination is striking. In the second group I like the star/snowflake on the lower right stamp. The detail is very nice. But I agree with others that all of your fancy cancels are just that: "pretty fancy" |

FYI In Photo 1: The "kicking mule" is most often associated with Port Townsend, though was used in other locations also. The 3c looks like a "Danbury Hat" from Danbury, CT. In Photo 2: The "W" is likely from Weston, MA

I am just curious is a target for the "tic tac toe" exist as a cancel? it will be useful, because with a stamp, you will get a chance to play one game on the stamp. at the end, you will have a unique combination of a regular + manuscript cancel. |
