Included in a recent order to SFS, I requested a strip of 25 stamps of the Kaleidoscope Flowers from a coil of 10,000.

What is the correct location one should split a plate number strip from a stamp issue that has four different designs? Given that there are four different designs and a plate number single and given that a backnumber is present at the location noted -- even though its not a cataloged variety -- should I keep the entire strip of 9 intact?

Wt1. it all depends on how you want to be correct. As a member of PNC3, if I were to collect this strip "correctly" it would be as a strip of 11, the only way with the plate number in the middle and all four designs in it. A lot of other collectors, especially those that use the Scott album ( and thus the Scott numbering sequence ) collect them the "Scott" way. I believe that would be a strip of four with the plate number in the left-most position.

Peter

Thanks. I didn't have much of a choice in this case, as the strip of 25 came with the leftmost stamp shown. I guess I'll just leave it like it is as a strip of 9. I hate strips of 11 because they are simply too large to fit into a stockbook or Vario page.

I'm one of those who collects this the Scott way (plate strips 5, 9 or 11 depending on number of stamps). Using the 42-cent Flag issue for reference, since there were four designs, a plate strip of 9 would be 3 stamps with the same design as the one with the plate number (4724) and 2 each of the others (4722, 4723, 4725).

That's what kind of annoys me about this....the extra 4725 on the end and missing the third 4724 at the front. I think they do this on purpose ;) Guess I'll have to hunt down a strip of 9 at the post office.

Florida, I hope you have better luck at the Post Office then most of us. I think you can only buy a roll of 100!
Of course, if you check E-Bay, you can find strips in all sorts of lengths. Look under plate number coils! Peter.

No way! The coils only come in 3,000 and 10,000 rolls respectively. Only the USPS Stamp Fulfillment Services sells them in smaller quantities (i.e. strips of 25 for collector purposes) but you are at their mercy to get the plate number in the right spot to collect the strip of 11 properly.

The standard for these for the hard core PNC entusiast is a strip of 9 with the number in the middle (stamp #5). Yours has the number on stamp #4. So,e will collect it as a strip of 5 with the number in the middle.
