Hi robster,

The China Clipper was run by US Pan-Am Airways, together with the Chinese government, using the M130 Flying Boat . More info here.........

The first flight of this extension of Foreign Air Mail route 14 to Hong Kong and Macao was April 21, 1937. Up until then the route started in San Francisco and ended in Manila in the Philippines. Your cover is ordinary commercial airmail that flew over this route a number of months after it was fully established. Most of this kind of mail was marked by a handwritten notation by the sender to ensure it was put on the next aircraft that was leaving on this regular service.

Luckily, Grandma was able to obtain the two items mentioned by Kimo: The route from San Fran to Manila, and the later extension to Hong Kong. I don't think they have much value, but Grandma tended to collect some items of interest.
