I have this German cover from 1936 with a "Luftpost" airmail cancellation and the stamp has a perfin. The back of the cover is totally blank and does not help at all. I cannot make out the perfins, so, I have scanned the stamp by itself as well.

Can anyone make out the perfin pattern?

The pattern appears to my eyes to be a plane silhouette..

I see it as a misshapen DM/O. My guess is perhaps "Debt Management Office"?

Could be wt1. However, the "O" part appears to be somewhat 'squared' at the top, which made me think it was the top half of an "S" but, I could be wrong.

There is a straightline DMG from Berlin that was Daimler (Motoren Gesellschaft).

Even if Daimler had different perfin formats over time, I'd expect a perf machine in better condition and a return address from such a large company, no?

I was seeing an 'N' instead of an 'M' but the more I look at it, I could go along with the 'M'.

Where is that cross-eyed smiley?

Sure would be nice to come across an ident cover for identification proof.

Thanks all for your help and time. Keep the ideas coming <G>

Didn't think about including a hyperlink.
