After a 30-year lapse, I am finally returning to stamp collecting.
I knew it's for me when my father brought home a packet of stamps when I was 9 or 10. While stamps from many countries interested me, I eventually concentrated in US stamps and also joined the APS (member # 09xxxx which was not renewed after a few years).
At 13, I started a stamp approval business and sold stamps to teens in SE Asia. For my 'business', I bought SG's Simplified Stamps of the World catalog for the hefty sum of US$8! I even issued shares to my siblings and friends to collect enough money to buy the catalog and kiloware. Those were the good old days...
Long story short, I am now back and intend to collect Brit. Comm. KGV/KGVI/QE2 sets that appeal to me. As well, I am buying the #1 and also the most beautiful stamp from UK, US, Canada and China. I am taking my time with this latter 'collection' as these stamps do cost quite a bit of money. (For China's most beautiful stamp. I just started a topic in the World Classic Stamps forum to solicit suggestions.)
So, this is my long-ish story. I hope to learn more from all of you and also contribute whenever I can.
Turns out I still have some of the approval booklets, but, alas, nothing of value there. But I did have fun going through them once again, what with the memories coming back...
This site is just so informative. Just yesterday, I learnt something about scanning stamps. Very interesting, indeed.
